Whoever decided a week should have gone by between the UCONN Men’s last game and this one, should be shot. Seriously, it seems like it’s been a too long time between games and especially since this one is so big. Now, the line for today’s noontime tipoff (That’s too early) is 3 1/2 and the Pitt Panthers are of course favored. Well, as much as I’d like to see UCONN kick their butts, I’m going to stick with the home team and because A.J. Price may or may not show up. The “turtle” has been more like the ground hog this year with one good game usually followed by one that is bad. A.J. got off to a bad start in the last game and when that happens, he’s inclined to stop shooting. Today, with Blair giving Thabeet a tough time, that just won’t work.
Oh by the way did anyone see that run Pitt went on against Marquette this week ? If you did, you had to notice that this team, when they get hot, it’s real hot. Contributions seem to come from everyone on the court and that is something the Huskies are lacking. Furthermore, I still don’t believe in Stanley Robinson, as much as I doubt that any UCONN player can stop Sam Young. Once again, the key is Thabeet and his ability to stay on the court. Hopefully, they still remember the Providence game and the way the Friars, on defense, fronted and totally frustrated Blair.
Today, when I started thinking about this game, I couldn’t help but remember the Elvin Hayes/Lew Alcindor (UCLA-Houston) battles from so many years ago. Houston won the first one and UCLA destroyed them the next time and thats when it really counted. That said, Hayes, didn’t have the supporting cast Blair does and that is a real problem for the Huskies. Even if Blair doesn’t have his normal game, look for Fields to be more of an offensive factor today and, unlike the last game, before it’s late in the second half.
Enjoy the game, hope A.J. (Turtle) Price pops his head out of the ground again today.
I’m out of here Sic-ric
