I want to first congratulate Maya Moore and “Papa” Geno for their awards (Big East player and Big East Coach of the year) yet, despite the fact that anyone having watched the Husky Women this season knows who deserved that Big East Player of the Year Award. It was Renee “The straw that stirs the drink” Montgomery. She picked her teammates up whenever they were down and she led them to an undefeated regular season. Whenever Moore or Charles were having a poor game, it was “Little Monty” who provided the leadership and spark to see the job got done.  Additionally, far and away, she was the most consistent player for the Huskies and over the last half of the season, she outplayed Maya in all but just a few of the games.

On another note and because some friends of mine begged me to write about it, the City of Hartford has done little or nothing to welcome people here to Hartford and the Women’s Big East Tournament. No banners and little else that would lead you to know the tourney was here this weekend. It would be nice if Hartford would embrace this tournament with billboards and signs, like maybe taking down the banners that adorn the city for the marathon and make the city basketball crazy for the Big East Tourney. Come on Hartford when you lose this one to somebody else , lets not look in the rear view mirror and say we should of done this or that. Take the proactive approach and start planning  or maybe yet see how other cities get all excited when a tourney comes to their town. Oh well, this is Hartford and people will just have to understand that our city is broke, the mayor has been indicted and things probably won’t get any better until Helen Urbinas takes over the city. That’s a joke and because what this city needs is something positive and she is far from that.

Enjoy the tournament and what I hope is just the first of two trophy presentations for our team. The road to the final in this years tournament looks easy and so, lets fast forward to the final and when another award awaits this great team.

I’m out of here! Sic-Ric
