monty.jpgOn a night when Maya Moore was as bad as she could be on offense (Only 8 points, 4 of them foul shots and a mere 2 of 9 from the floor) Renee Montgomery (17 points, with most of them in the first half),  with help from consistent and reliable Tina Charles (Game high 19 points) and a rejuvenated Kalana Greene (15 points)  showed the Villanova Pussycats why they are, without a doubt, the best team in the country. Looking at the fact that Villanova had no inside game and to the extent they hoisted up 34 bombs from 3 point range, you had to know that this game was going to be a sure win.

The final score was 74 to 47 yet, it easily could have worse. That is, of course, if Maya Moore wasn’t experiencing her biggest offensive funk of the year (First game this year she didn’t score in double figures).  Nonetheless, she did have a big game on the boards (11 rebounds) and so, with the help of freshman Tiffany Hayes (Game high 12 rebounds) and Tina Charles (10 rebounds) the Husky woman totally dominated the boards by an incredible margin of 51 to 26. The #1 team in the country ran their record to 28-0 and once again, with little trouble from another overwhelmed and outplayed opponent. The only thing bothersome about this game was Maya and her continued offensive problems. She was 0 for 5 from three point range and that is something you rarely will see from her. Note that she was 2 of 4 from 2 point range and 4 for 4 from the foul line and so, her troubles are obviously from long range. Hopefully, this is a temporary situation and because we need her big shot and points come the NCAA Tournament time.

The next two games are against Seton Hall (XL Center) and Rutgers (Away) and both are sure to be easy wins. What’s not going to be easy, is watching them and because, especially against Seton Hall, the games are going to be over before they’re even started.

I’m out of here!  Sic Rick
