The first half wasn’t very pretty and at times, even (Down 29-21) a little frustrating but, come the second half, the UCONN Huskies totally dominated the backboards (47 to 24) and beat a game, but physically outclassed Michigan Wolverine “Less than Fab Five” 69 to 61. If not for the excellent shooting performance of Michigan’s Stu Douglass (7 of 10 from the field and 6 of 8 from 3 point range) the margin of victory would easily been much greater. Last night Jerome “Dice and Slice” Dyson was the offensive catalyst for the Huskies, with a game high 19 points (3 of 4 from 3 point range) and a Hasheem Thabeet continued his improving ways by addding 17 points and 12 rebounds. Jeff Adrien had a team high 14 rebounds but, his offensive output (9 points) was less than his usual . The Wolverines outshot the Huskies in the first half and so they actually led at the midway mark, 34 to 33. A.J. Price struggled from the field (2 of 10) and Stanley Robinson, despite being 3 of 6 from the field, once again showed us that he can’t hit a five foot open jump shot. Stanley, here’s a sure way for you to get more minutes. Concentrate on playing better defense and, even if your wide open, don’t attempt a shot unless it’s a lay up or dunk.Coach “Jimbo” Calhoun called the game torturous but, a win is a win and therefore, the Huskies remain the #1 ranked team in the country. The Courant reported that Coach “Jimbo” Calhoun was upset with Digger Phelps and because he was less than flattering when he spoke about UCONN and their being the top ranked team in the nation. That said, who really cares what he thinks. All I’m going to say about the matter is, unlike the Deacons, Blue Demons, Panthers and Tar Heels, our team fights like a Dog and just keeps on winning. Our next game is Wednesday, at Gampel and against Big East rival Syracuse. Jim “The Whiner” Boeheim will be there and no doubt running his hands through his thinning hair. I don’t know about you but, I really enjoy seeing “Jimbo” kicking the “Whiners”butt because, even though they have about the same number of wins, The Whiner, in my opinion, has always done less and even when he’s had more talent.
I’m out of here! Sic Rick!
