Robinson goes 7 for 11 and that spells anything but relief for Friars!
Posted by sic-rick under Men's BasketballWhen you get 18 points and 7 rebounds from Stanley Robinson and couple that a totally dominant effort from Hasheem Thabeet (Three double) that has to no doubt spell big trouble for the opposition. Yes, those two guys having big nights, along with the steady and even improving play of A. J. Price, and you can see why the Friars got completely fried in the second half of last nights 94 to 61 UCONN blowout victory, at the Gampel Pavilion. By game time, the bookies lowered the spread from 15 to 12 1/2 and so they too thought this one would turn out the way the first half did. The Huskies, leading 38 to 34 at the intermission, came out after the break even hotter than the Friars were cold. The rest is history and another huge win for the UCONN men’s Basketball squad. Moreover, the second half 56 to 27 edge clearly sent a resounding and emphatic message to the pollsters and relative to UCONN’S claim as the latest #1 team in the country.
Thabeet blocked just about everything that came his way in the second half and he finished the night with an incredible 10 of UCONN’S 17 total blocked shots. He completed the 7th all time Husky triple double by adding 11 rebounds and 15 points to his evening of work. A.J.Price (Scored his 1000 point as a husky) led all scorers with 19 points and Jeff Adrien chipped in another 14. Gavin Edwards also did an impressive job, during his 16 minutes on the floor, by adding 9 rebounds and 8 points. The Huskies shot a respectable 47.3 % from the floor to go with an even more impressive 79.2 % from the free throw line.
Yes, this was a game in which everything went the Huskies way, except for when it came to the play of Jerome Dyson. He was an uncharacteristic 2 for 11 from the field but, it mattered little when you consider the way everyone else contributed to the cause.
Now, Providence helped in a big way and by shooting a pitiful 33.3 % from the field to go along with a hard to stomach 35.3 % from the charity stripe. Needless to say, Keno Davis, son of Dr. Tom Davis, looked sick enough to call a doctor. WOW! What a difference a couple of nights can make.
Well, now it’s off to Louisville, this Monday night and to face a team that’s also on a roll. The Huskies will surely enter the State of Kentucky as the #1 Team in the nation and let’s hope they leave it that way.
I’M out of here! Sic Rick
