keno.jpgThis afternoon, when Coach “Jimbo” Calhoun and his UCONN Huskies Men’s Basketball Team entertain Coach Keno Davis and his Providence Friars (Tip off at Gampel and at 4pm), they are going to be severely tested and by a team they haven’t beaten, at home, since February 5, 2002. The Friars beat us twice last year and, as of late, they’ve been playing some pretty good ball. Their recent win against NO. 15 ranked Syracuse, in which they scored 100 points and their Big East 6 and 2 record have really caught my attention and to the extent I don’t dare bet against them in today’s all New England match up. The bookies have made this one a whopping 15 point spread and that is way too much for me to lay and especially since many think the Friars have what it takes to pull off the upset. That said, I think the Huskies will find a way to win this one but, not by 15 points. The Providence starting five features four seniors and one junior and all of them contribute offensively. The edge inside does go to UCONN but, with the way Thabeet and Adrien have consistently been  unable to finish or hit foul shots, I’m thinking the 3 point happy Friars find a way to keep things close.

Next up is an away game on Monday against ” Slick” Rick Pitino and his Louisville Cardinals. Moreover, with Pittsburgh and Marquette are on the horizon, the best part of Big East schedule/brawl is clearly underway. Enjoy the game today and GO HUSKIES!

I welcome seeing both the UCONN Men and Women ranked # 1 after today’s games yet, I’m shocked it’s happening again this year.

I’m out of here!  Sic Rick
